Crawl space! No one would ever want to spend time down there! The mold, humidity, bugs! But did you know that up to 60% of the air in your home came from the crawlspace through what is known as the stack effect? The air in your crawlspace may be forgotten, but it is not gone. In fact, if you have allergies, there is a good chance that it may be contributing to them!

You see previously it has been customary to build a home with an open crawlspace and allow the outside air to take control and remove the excess moisture under a home. That’s great except you are taking HOT MOIST air and bringing it into your cool crawlspace. What happens to hot air when you rapidly cool it?  What Happens to the moisture in it?  It falls like dew in the evening.  So your crawlspace is wet and cool all summer. Is Radon Really a Big Deal?

Radon TestingIs radon really a health risk? Yes, radon is a Class A carcinogen, which means it is known to cause cancer in humans. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking, and results in approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths in the United States each year.

Not everyone who breathes radon will develop lung cancer. Your risk is determined by such things as how much radon is in your home (and/or workplace, school, or other indoor environment); the amount of time you spend in your home (and/or workplace, school, or other indoor environment); and whether you smoke or have ever smoked.
